Parents:
To ensure everyone can keep track with assignments during our time learning at home, I wanted to point out a new feature on Parent Portal. You can now see grades that do not have grades inputted in the grade book. You will NOT receive grade alerts for blank grades. This will help you keep up with assignments at home a little better.
All you have to do is click show all assignments. The screen shots below are from my phone screen. It will look differently on a computer screen but the language is the same.
Please let me know if you need any help.

The virus lives in tiny droplets in the lungs of people w/ COVID-19, even when they don’t show symptoms. We can breathe the same air as anyone within abt. 6 ft. of us. Staying farther apart from people during this time reduces the chance of breathing in the virus. #StayHomeTexas
#StayHomeTexas

I will have Yearbook order forms at school for parents/students on Monday that want to pick one up. I will also post it online so all can see the packages available. If you want to order online go to balfour.com and it will allow you to shop our school. If you still would rather do a personal order I will make a box for that at the school drop off and parents can place payments there and I will enter it online for you! Hope that helps!

JISD Parents & Students,
I wanted to give you all an update with spring pictures. I know there have been questions and I am patiently waiting on the answer at this point. As soon as myself or the administration know something we will let everyone know. One way or another things will get resolved.
Second, I have had many questions about the yearbook. My kids and I are working hard and making sure we get everyone the best possible product so yes we are still having a yearbook! We added many things this year for more content, with school being at a halt we are having to rethink those pages but are coming up with great ideas and solutions! We have about 50 yearbooks left to sell, so if you haven’t purchased yours yet PLEASE get yours today! The purchasing of a yearbook basically pays the costs for the yearbook so we need every book sold we can to make sure we are giving the best possible book each year. I have been so proud of my kids and what we gave to our student body last year and we have done so many things this year to see what we can do better and make it happen! I will be making a post next week with new ideas we have for pages and how you as parents and students can help us with that so keep a look out! Have a great weekend and next week!
Kayla Sellers- JISD Yearbook Teacher

People with no symptoms have the potential to unknowingly spread COVID-19! That’s why it’s best for everyone in your family to stay at home and away from others as much as possible until instructed otherwise from state and local officials. #StayHomeTexas
#StayHomeTexas

Texas, remember the importance of social distancing. If you must go out, avoid public spaces and keep your distance from others (at least 6 feet). If we continue to follow valuable public health guidance, fewer of our friends & family will be affected by COVID-19. #StayHomeTexas

I just want to remind everyone that as teachers grade their first round of papers to NOT stress over grades in the gradebook. Teachers have to enter a missing or zero grade for alerts to come across parent portal. This is ONLY for documentation purposes. Assignment due dates are flexible. Please stay in touch with the teachers on when you can turn assignments in.
Remember that we are all working with a LOT of grace for each other. This is new to each of us!! As always, if a student is working hard and communicating with their teachers we will do what a child needs to succeed.

Students will be able to get into lockers again this Wednesday, April 8th. Anyone entering the building will be medically screened.

Before social distancing, each person with #COVID19 spread the virus to 2.5 more people. At that pace, most would get it, and many more people would die. But we can slow the spread. That’s why we all #StayHome. #ApartTogether we slow coronavirus.

You can spread #COVID19 without knowing you have it. Whether you have symptoms or not, #StayHome. If you have to go out, wear a mask/bandana/scarf, regularly wash your hands, and stay 6 feet apart. We must stay #ApartTogether to slow coronavirus. https://tea.texas.gov/staywell

Just a reminder, if you need extra help with assignments please reach out to the school or teacher. We can set up a phone call, zoom meeting, FaceTime...whatever we need to do to help!

There seems to be a default reminder setting through evite for Prom. I have heard from several students today that they had received this reminder. The issue should be corrected, but I wanted to make sure that everyone is aware that Prom WILL NOT take place April 4th as originally planned. Please email me with any questions or concerns!
Thanks!

Governor Abbot has extended the school closure until May 1st, 2020.
As of know, our current plan of distance learning will continue as is. Administration at the school is diligent working to fine tune all of the learning opportunities for students and staff.
Please know that we truly miss all of the students and community members. The halls of JISD are lonely without you all there!!
If you have any questions please call us!
